About the Speakers:

Professor Ian Harper

Ian Harper is one of Australia’s best-known economists. He has worked closely with governments, banks, corporate and leading professional services firms at the highest level. As a member of the celebrated Wallis Inquiry, he was at the forefront of financial market reform in Australia.

Ian joined Access Economics as a Senior Consultant in August 2008, following a 25-year academic career, including 16 years in various roles at Melbourne Business School.  In recognition of his service, Ian was elected Emeritus Professor of the University of Melbourne on his departure.

 

 

In October 2005 Ian was appointed inaugural Chairman of the Australian Fair Pay Commission.  The Commission is an independent statutory body whose role is to set and adjust minimum wages in Australia.

Ian Harper is sought after as a commentator and public speaker on economic and financial issues.  He has been described as “one of those relatively rare academics who can communicate extremely well with both the business community and the academic community”.

Kevin has more than 20 years of major financial institution experience covering credit & risk, relationship management, and business re-engineering across various segments (from retail through to institutional banking) as well as a variety of geographic areas  namely the US, UK and Asia.

 

During his career Kevin has held a number of significant leadership roles including General Manager Credit -  nabbusiness Australia, Head of Credit - VIC/TAS, Turnaround Executive at Michigan National Bank, and Credit Executive, Credit Risk Management - Institutional.

 

Kevin has been the Chief Risk Officer for Business and Private Banking Australia, where he had overall responsibility for risk entailing Credit Decisioning, Specialised Business Services (impaired asset management), Operational Risk and Compliance.

 
 
 
 

George Georges, Partner, Ferrier Hodgson

 

George Georges joined Ferrier Hodgson in 1990, specialising in corporate recovery and became a Partner in 2000.

 

George is known for his energy and tenacious approach to challenging situations and has carried out assignments across a broad spectrum of industries reviewing businesses for cost savings and restructuring opportunities to improve profitability.

 

George has been heavily involved in the restructuring of many businesses in the oil and petroleum industry.  He was also Joint Administrator of the Coogi Group of companies, a major exporter of clothing; Balgee Oil Pty Ltd, one of Australia’s largest petroleum distributors and APA Manufacturing Pty Ltd, Australia’s largest automotive LPG tank manufacturer.

 
 
 
 
Anthony Warr, Director, Warr Financial Planning


 


Anthony is the founder and managing director of WFP and has over 11 years of experience in the financial services industry. As the principal advisor, he takes time to understand our clients’ overarching values and is responsible for developing and overseeing clients’ wealth management plans.

 

Anthony is married to Marina and they have 3 children; Harvey, Anna and Fraser. He has a healthy balance of work and recreation and diverse interests, including fine wine, recreational surfing and snow skiing, and a passion for the Collingwood Football Club.

   
Francis Grey, Head of Australian Research, Sustainable Asset Management
 

Francis Grey has been implementing the Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) Group sustainability assessment of Australia’s top 200 listed companies. Francis is the Research Manager for SAM and coordinates the annual research process behind the publication of the Australian SAM Sustainability Index (AuSSI) published in the business pages of The Australian newspaper. He also works with the research team that produces the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Fancis is an independent consulting economist with a specialty in the economics of the environment.

 

   
Tracey Curro (MC), Former 60 Minutes Reporter & Communications Manager, Sustainability Victoria





Tracey Curro began her career in journalism in 1986 as a reporter on regional television in Shepparton, Victoria. A year later she joined National Nine News in Brisbane as a reporter and weekend news presenter.

 

In 1988, she moved to Melbourne to work as a presenter and reporter on Eyewitness News on Ten and Ten Morning News nationally.

 

In 1993, she teamed with Jana Wendt, Richard Carleton, Charles Wooley and Jeff McMullen on the prestigious public affairs program 60 Minutes. For three-and-a-half years she filed stories from around the world, including the Middle East, Europe and the Falkland Islands.

 

Her most memorable stories on 60 Minutes include her interview with Pauline Hanson, which elicited Hanson's now-famous "please explain", and her candid interviews with celebrities such as Bono.
